Abstract
Huawei AirEngine Wi-Fi 7 access points are designed for high-capacity wireless networking, dense deployments, and integrated IoT use cases. In Tolly’s evaluation, multiple AirEngine Wi-Fi 7 models were tested for throughput, coverage, multi-user efficiency, mesh backhaul, roaming, and advanced platform features. Results showed that all tested APs delivered more than 2.3Gbps single-user throughput on the 5GHz radio with 160MHz channels, and more than 4.5Gbps on the 6GHz radio with 320MHz channels, with several models reaching about 4.6Gbps to 4.75Gbps.
The report also highlights strong performance in more demanding scenarios. For 4096QAM coverage, several models maintained about 1.04Gbps to 1.09Gbps TCP downstream throughput at a 10-meter horizontal distance with the AP mounted 3 meters high using 5GHz at 80MHz. In MU-MIMO testing with three Wi-Fi 7 clients, indoor and outdoor models delivered up to 2.79Gbps aggregate throughput on 5GHz with 160MHz bandwidth. Huawei’s Dynamic-Zoom smart antenna technology also improved same-channel deployment efficiency: in one test, the AirEngine 6776-X6H increased dual-endpoint aggregate throughput by 76% at 80MHz and 82% at 40MHz when switched from omnidirectional to high-density directional mode.
For wireless backhaul, outdoor and industrial models achieved up to 4.6Gbps mesh throughput at 0 meters using 6GHz and 320MHz, and up to 1.82Gbps at 200 meters using 5GHz and 160MHz. In multi-user application testing, several models supported 30 concurrent clients streaming 4K video smoothly. User-capacity testing showed support for up to 1,200 concurrent clients on some models and up to 1,800 on others.
Beyond raw throughput, the platform includes features aimed at enterprise operations and service assurance, including MLO high availability, Leader AP controllerless management, VIP Lane superframe preemption, Wi-Fi Shield, CSI-based personnel sensing, NearLink and Bluetooth IoT integration, MACsec encryption, IPv6 client support, 802.11r fast roaming under 10ms on 6GHz, and iCSSR spatial reuse. In iCSSR testing, the AirEngine 6776-X6H improved same-frequency three-AP network throughput from 702Mbps to 1,119Mbps, a 59.4% gain.
